Introduction
Wouldn’t be great to drastically increase your brain performance with a few simple tricks? Remember everything you learn, read or hear? Boost your creativity, energy, and performance? Be able to focus on your tasks for hours? The good news is that it is absolutely possible, and people are doing it! All you need is a will to hack your mind and apply the points I list below. Keep reading to find out how to take your mind to the next level.
You can apply one simple trick that will boost your brain abilities immediately but also focus on long term solutions. I describe both methods below.
Boost Your Brain Power NOW
Nootropics… that’s all you need to boost your brain performance TODAY. Nootropics are called “smart drugs” or “cognitive enhancers”. According to Wikipedia nootropics are “drugs, supplements, and other substances that are claimed to improve cognitive function, particularly executive functions, memory, creativity, or motivation”. I don’t think it needs further introduction. Thanks to nootropics you will think faster, your mind will be brighter, you’ll boost your creativity, and you’ll be smarter overall. Don’t expect too much, though – nootropics won’t do miracles but you’ll easily notice the difference.
There are various types of nootropics. Technically, they fall into these 3 categories: dietary supplements, synthetic compounds, and prescription drugs. I would divide them into the following categories: herbs (natural), racetams (drugs), and supplements that include a mix of ingredients – I tried all three. Let me describe all three, and you’ll decide what’s right for you.
Disclaimer: Remember it’s your responsibility to find out if you can take those supplements. I encourage you to contact your doctor before you take nootropics or any other supplements or drugs.
#1: Natural herbs: Rhodiola Rosea, Bacopa Monnieri, Ginkgo Biloba.
This is the cheapest option as a monthly supplementation of each of those herbs costs literally a few bucks, and usually require taking your supplements every day for the next few weeks before you notice the real difference. But it’s worth it! Consistency is the key here.
#2: Supplements: Qualia Mind, Alpha Brain, Mind Lab Pro.
There are hundreds of ‘brain supplements’ but the 3 I listed above are the most popular ones. They are not cheap as you need to spend somewhere between $70 and $150 per month. It may seem a lot for many but think about it this way: if such a supplement helps you boost your brain performance, and you get only 30% more tasks done in a day, you will easily cover the cost for your monthly supplementation. I’ve done the research for you, and the best supplement you can get for your brain is “Qualia Mind” – I tried it, and I recommend it. The best thing is that all 3 herbs (and many many more ‘smart’ ingredients) I listed in point #1 above are included in “Qualia Mind”!
#3: Racetam drugs: Piracetam, Oxiracetam, Phenylpiracetam.
‘Racetams’ is a level up. These are more drugs than just supplements and are generally invented to help people. Oxiracetam attenuates the symptoms of dementia including Alzheimer’s dementia. Phenylpiracetam was developed for Soviet Cosmonauts and has memory enhancement effects.
One thing you need to keep in mind is that nootropics are usually not stimulants like caffeine. So they will not necessarily motivate you to work but once you start your work, you’ll do your tasks better and faster because nootropics increase your brain’s performance.
Boost Your Brain Power LONG TERM
#1: Healthy lifestyle
One phrase: healthy lifestyle. I won’t go too deep into details as I already described in my other blog post titled “How To Become Productivity Superhero (400% Increase)” in point #1. In short, you should focus on the following:
– Hydration – drink a lot of water every day. Use an app that reminds you to drink
– Excercise – remember that even a short walk every day makes a difference
– Diet – don’t go crazy with diets. Eat fish, nuts, vegetables and fruits, avoid sugar and alcohol
– Sleep – sleep at least 7 hours, consider using the ‘Sleep Cycle’ app
When you live healthily, your body function differently – it’s a wonderful feeling to wake up full of energy and feel like you’re 20 years younger. And believe me, you can do that. But consistency is the key. You don’t need to go crazy with anything. Just drink more water, take a short walk daily, don’t eat junk food, and try to sleep enough – be reasonable. Don’t worry if you have cheat days – McDonald once in 2 weeks is acceptable 😉
Besides a healthy lifestyle, there are other things that you can do to develop better focus, creativity, and memory. Here are some of them…
#2: Stay mentally active
I used lumosity.com before which is a service/app with special games designed by scientists. So you play various games and train your brain at the same time improving your memory, focus, problem-solving abilities, processing speed and more. It’s free, and you pay only if you’re interested in using a more advanced version of the app.
However, any mental activity is good and really works best if you do it day in day out. Do crossword puzzles, play Tetris, take alternate routes when driving, etc. All the small things add up.
It works better than you may think! In one of the articles from the healthline.com service we can read:
“A study that included 42 adults with mild cognitive impairment found that playing games on a brain-training app for eight hours over a four-week period improved performance in memory tests.
Another study of 4,715 people showed that when they did 15 minutes of an online brain-training program at least five days a week, their short-term memory, working memory, concentration and problem-solving improved significantly compared to a control group.
Plus, brain-training games have been shown to help reduce the risk of dementia in older adults.”
NZT from “The Limitless” movie
Did you see “The Limitless” movie with Bradley Cooper? Do you think this is pure fiction? Well, not exactly! There is a substance that works similarly to the fictional NZT pill. Your IQ doesn’t jump 100 points instantly after you take it like in the movie but it makes you smarter more than anything else.
Magic word: microdosing
Used by the most successful people in Silicon Valley, and 2 Nobel prize laureates
This is a whole level up from everything I described before in this blog post. If you never heard about microdosing, it’s about “Consuming crumb-size amounts of psychedelics – not to get high but to feel more focused and creative and present” as thecut.com writes in one of their articles. Here’s how the article starts:
“As of one month ago, I knew of just one friend who microdosed; my friend, who is a musician, said he was taking 0.1 grams of mushrooms a few mornings a week so he could finish up an album that had been taking him years.“
Unfortunately, this is illegal in many countries, and even if it is legal in your region, it is not for everyone. I don’t encourage anyone to take it and if you even decide to try it, ask you doctor first.
I use ‘magic truffles’ – it’s pretty much the same as ‘magic mushrooms’ but truffle is the part underground while mushroom is the part over the ground. For me, it works fantastic. In the near future I may write a separate article about it as there are a few main dosing protocols, and important rules you should obey during the microdosing cycle.
Summary
The best way to move your brain to another level is to start living healthy first. Then think about using some nootropics, and make a decision to exercise your brain on daily basis. That’s it! After weeks and months, you will see the difference. An upgraded version of your brain will allow you to do the same amount of work in a much shorter time, and you will be way more creative, so you will do things faster and better.
Good luck!
